v7.1 – Freemium Model & Transcription Enhancements

LingoStand is Now Free!
We’re thrilled to announce that LingoStand is now entirely free! Previously, we offered a free trial, but we’ve transitioned to a freemium model with no cost for now. This means anyone can use LingoStand without restrictions! In the near future, we’ll be introducing a daily usage limit, but for now, enjoy unlimited access to all our features.

Transcription Improvements

One of the major updates in v7.1 is the enhancement to our transcription capabilities. Previously, LingoStand relied on the Speech-to-Text (STT) web API, but we’re now harnessing the power of OpenAI’s Whisper, which runs on our backend and is based on pronunciation recordings. This upgrade allows us to:

Consistent Experience Across Devices: By moving transcription to the backend, all users enjoy the same smooth experience, regardless of device type.
Multilingual Adaptability: Imagine you’re learning Spanish and say, “Hoy fui a la… beach.” The new transcription system is capable of adapting, helping you flow through your conversation by either translating “beach” to “playa” or prompting you to use the correct word. This adaptation removes the need for manual translation and helps users enjoy more seamless and immersive language practice.

Autoplay Feature
We’ve also added an exciting new Autoplay feature. Previously, after speaking to the chatbot, users had to review the transcription and click a send button to submit it. With the new Autoplay toggle, when it’s set, your transcription will be sent automatically to the chatbot backend without requiring an additional click. This makes interactions feel more fluid and natural.

However, there is a known issue on Chrome/iOS devices, where users might see a “NotAllowedError” when the chatbot tries to autoplay its response. In such cases, users will need to follow the previous process of manually clicking send.
